1) Overview
Math Helper AI is a mobile application that helps you solve math problems using camera-based input (OCR), text input, and step-by-step explanations. The app includes five built-in local solvers (arithmetic, linear equations, quadratic equations, basic integrals, and derivatives) and optional AI-powered solving for more advanced problems.
Your solved problems can be saved to local history on your device using an on-device database (Hive). No data is sent to any server unless you explicitly configure an external AI API.
This policy explains what data the app and this static website may process, and how you can control it.
2) Google Play Data Safety Declaration
In accordance with Google Play's Data Safety requirements, the following summarizes how Math Helper AI handles user data:
- Data collected: No personal or sensitive user data is collected.
- Data shared: No data is shared with third parties, except when you explicitly configure an external AI API (in which case only math problem text is sent).
- Data encrypted in transit: Yes. If external AI is used, all communication occurs over HTTPS.
- Data deletion: Users can delete all app data by clearing history within the app or by uninstalling the app. All data is stored locally on-device.
- No account required: The app does not require user registration or sign-in.
- No advertising: The app does not contain ads or advertising SDKs.
- No analytics: The app does not include analytics SDKs, crash reporting tools, or any form of usage tracking.
- No in-app purchases: The app is free with no monetization.
3) Data we process
Math Helper AI is designed to minimize data collection. Depending on how you use the app, the following categories of information may be processed locally on your device:
- Math input: Problems you type or capture via camera (OCR).
- OCR output: Recognized text extracted from your camera images.
- Solutions: Step-by-step solutions generated by local solvers or AI.
- History: Saved problems and solutions stored in local database.
- Favorites: Problems you mark as favorites for quick access.
- Settings: Your preferences such as language, explanation language, and display options.
We do not collect: names, email addresses, phone numbers, location data, device identifiers, IP addresses, advertising IDs, or any personal information.
4) App permissions
Math Helper AI requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function:
- Camera (
android.permission.CAMERA): Used solely to scan and capture math problems for OCR recognition. Camera access is requested at runtime and can be denied or revoked at any time. No images are stored or transmitted. - Internet (
android.permission.INTERNET): Required only when the optional external AI feature is enabled by the user. If no API key is configured, no network requests are made. The app functions fully offline with local solvers.
The app does not request access to: contacts, location, microphone, phone state, storage (external), SMS, calendar, or any other sensitive permissions.
5) Camera + OCR
When you use the camera feature, the app uses on-device OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to recognize math expressions from images you capture. The recognized text is then used to generate solutions.
Important: Camera images are processed in real-time and are not stored on any server. The app does not upload your photos anywhere. OCR processing happens entirely within the app on your device.
The app requests camera permission solely for the purpose of scanning math problems. No images are saved to your device's gallery unless you explicitly do so yourself.
6) Local storage (history)
The app stores your solved problems locally on your device using Hive, a lightweight on-device database. This data never leaves your device.
Locally stored data includes:
- The original math problem (input text)
- The generated solution and step-by-step explanation
- Timestamp of when the problem was solved
- Whether the problem is marked as a favorite
You have full control over your history: you can delete individual entries, clear all history, or uninstall the app to remove all data.
7) Optional external AI
For problems that go beyond what local solvers can handle, the app can optionally send your math input to an external AI API. This feature is entirely optional and disabled by default.
To use external AI, you must manually:
- Enter an API key in the app's Settings screen
- Configure the API endpoint URL
When external AI is enabled, only the math problem text is sent to the configured provider. No personal information, device identifiers, or metadata is included in the request.
If no API key is configured, the app will not contact any external server. Local solvers will handle arithmetic, linear equations, quadratic equations, basic integrals, and derivatives entirely offline.
The external AI provider's data handling practices are governed by their own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing the provider's policy before configuring their API.
8) Third-party services
Math Helper AI uses the following third-party services:
-
Google ML Kit (Text Recognition): Used for on-device OCR to recognize
math text from camera images. All processing happens locally on your device. Google ML Kit
does not send your images to Google servers when using the on-device API.
Policy: Google Privacy Policy - External AI API (optional, user-configured): Only active if you manually enter an API key and endpoint. Only math problem text is transmitted. The provider's privacy policy governs their data handling.
The app does not use: Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Facebook SDK, AdMob, crash reporting services, or any other tracking or advertising SDKs.
10) Data retention & deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, data retention is entirely under your control:
- History data: Retained on your device until you delete it manually from within the app, or until you uninstall the app.
- Settings/preferences: Stored locally until app data is cleared or the app is uninstalled.
- Camera images: Never stored. Processed in real-time for OCR and immediately discarded.
- AI cache: Temporary solution cache is stored in-memory during the app session and is cleared when the app is closed.
How to delete your data:
- Open the app and go to History to delete individual items or clear all history.
- Go to your device Settings > Apps > Math Helper AI > Clear Data to remove all app data.
- Uninstall the app to permanently remove all associated data from your device.
No data is retained on any server. There is no server-side data to request deletion of.
12) Security
We take the security of your data seriously. Since Math Helper AI stores all data locally on your device, your data inherits the security protections of your device's operating system, including device encryption and lock screen protection.
Key security measures include:
- No server storage: Your math problems and solutions are stored only on your device.
- No accounts: No usernames, passwords, or authentication tokens to protect.
- HTTPS: If external AI is configured, all API communication uses HTTPS encryption.
- Minimal data transmission: Only math problem text is sent when using external AI.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but the app's privacy-first, local-only design significantly reduces risk.
13) International data transfers
Math Helper AI does not transfer your data internationally. All app data is stored locally on your device.
If you choose to configure an external AI API, your math problem text may be sent to servers located in other countries depending on the provider you configure. This transfer is initiated solely by your action of configuring the API, and is subject to the external provider's privacy policy.
14) Your choices & rights
You have full control over your data:
- Delete history: Remove individual items or clear all history from the app.
- Disable external AI: Remove your API key from Settings to stop all external communication.
- Change language: Switch the explanation language at any time (13 languages supported).
- Camera access: Revoke camera permission in your device's system settings at any time.
- Uninstall: Removing the app deletes all locally stored data permanently.
Since we do not collect personal data on any server, there is no server-side data to request access to, correct, or delete.
15) Children's privacy
Math Helper AI is designed as an educational tool suitable for users of all ages. The app does not collect personal information, does not require account creation, and does not include advertising or in-app purchases.
Since all data is stored locally and no personal information is collected or transmitted (unless external AI is explicitly configured by the user), the app is considered safe for use by children under parental guidance.
If a parent or guardian has concerns about their child's use of the app, they can contact us using the information below.
16) Contact the developer
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact the developer:
- Email: Available in the Google Play Store listing under "Developer contact"
- App Store page: Use the contact information on the app's Google Play listing
We will respond to privacy-related inquiries as promptly as possible.
17) Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date is shown at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after updates means you accept the updated policy.
